Pollinator Bee Facts
  •

  • Bee hives are organized like a self- governing democratic society. They make all their rules through a group consensus, without leaders.

  • Worker Bees collect nectar and pollen from flowers to bring back to the hive. They use nectar to make honey, and the pollen to eat.

  • Only the Queen Bee lays eggs that grow into baby bees. She can lay around 2,000 eggs in one day!

  • Monarch Butterflies and their offspring journey over 3000 miles before returning to their forest home in Mexico. It takes 7 generations of butterflies to complete the long journey home.

  • The Buzzing sound that bees make is actually the sound of their wings fluttering at an extremely fast rate.

  • Honey has been used for thousands of years as a medicine
to kill bacteria and germs. Raw honey can be applied in a thin layer to help clean and heal minor wounds and burns.        A spoon full of honey can relieve sore throats and coughs.

  • Monarch butterflies  are very particular about where they lay their eggs and will only lay them on Milkweed plants. So let's plant more Milkweed seeds!

Attracting Pollinators and Beneficial Insects

Put an assortment of rocks in an old pie tin or other flat container. Fill container with fresh water daily. Leave some rocks exposed above the water for the insects to use as landing and rest areas.
